Viseu, winter camp

Winter Camp 14-24.02 was spent near the city of Viseu, Casa de Darei palace, where, together with the Finnish club members and other athletes from different clubs spent a quality training camp. Now when I have returned home to Latvia, only then after the occurrence of relaxation, I estimate, what is obtained in this training session. Running on the dirt roads and maps matters of course, but partly also to coercion by investing in jobs and base for future seasons.

Martin's thoughts: Even before the camp 's my head flashed two ideas conflicting with each other. The first version of the plan was to train to my full potential and, in a way to build this camp as a heavy week. The second option was to train wise, putting the accent on the low end of the weekend a competition. I chose the second option, a bit of self - saving purposes. There are still days when my body reacts a little bit of mystery, which is sickness effects of the disease. But over the years I have learned to adequately respond to and cope with it ;) . At the beginning of training plan 2 times per day: Day and Night - o. I don't know, how many times I have said, that training at night is something special. If you are able to come back the next day in the same area in daylight and to evaluate the places where previously really failed, this day is a transcript of dough and relaxed "fairy tale", however, that everything is in order and all are based on the night "kneaded" is completely uncaptured info. I liked Viseu forests, as I understood the 2012th The POM competitions held here. I am fascinated by the fact that the maps are similar to Finland - rocky, rough areas, but the difference between the Portuguese regions were evident, particularly well - experienced Finns who navigate off-road difficulties were encountered. Some conclusions after camp from our team members:

I've been thinking about the races, that was included at the end of the camp. I have learnt/ told myself to take them for what they are early on in the season and after a training camp, and that is training, good training and nothing else. I have also learnt what I should avoid when I run in rough, Portuguese terrain.

Jussi
The unfamiliar technical terrain in Portugal taught me that I had to be ready to adapt my orienteering style during the race. The Middle Distance race in particular was a good lesson that I should take more time in the beginning of the course to understand the mapping style and what are the obvious features in the terrain!

Nice to run with map in such demanding terrains after longer brake. Top quality job done by our attorneys Kari and Sundman. Rough terrains, but excellent preparation for upcoming WC event in Turkey and Scandinavia during spring time.
All info about races in 22-23.02.
POM orienteering, for our team was running Kari, Esa and Jussi!
